One Small Step- Fasting for Growth
Of all the things to be asked to write about, fasting is probably one of the hardest for me. I am not good at fasting. There are days I don’t think about food and barely eat, but TELL me I am going to miss a meal then I am starving and all I think about is food. Can you relate?
Pastor Pete gave us many examples of fasting in Matthew 6:16-17, Luke 18:12, and Acts 13:1-3, 14:23 in the sermon Sunday. Fasting seemed to give the prophets and apostles clarity to be better in their prayer life and as teachers to extend the kingdom of God with the decisions they made after praying and fasting. Isn’t that what we are all striving to do? To be better servants to God and help His kingdom grow?
I find it encouraging that I can start my fasting journey with just One Small Step. I sat and thought about what was taking the most time away from my daily walk with Jesus. While my answer may be different from yours it is the same goal- We have to fast to spiritually grow. Fasting gives us spiritual power to grow in our faith, clarity to be more like Jesus, and our souls a prayer prompt as we deny ourselves.
Life is not easy- fasting is not easy- but the rewards are undeniable!
