Weekday Devotionals
The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.
Prov 19:8
Sunday Pastor Eric spoke on “Leaving your Yes on the table”. He explained that this means even when it doesn’t make sense the answer is yes. Yes God, I’ll follow your direction no matter what.
Yesterday morning as I was getting ready for work this thought came to mind, “We do not DO because we cannot. We do not DO because we simply DO NOT WANT TO. For when we truly want to do, we make a way.” I was part convinced and part excited that I had something to write and share with the world.
Far too many mornings I wake up and think of all the things I’ve got to get done during the day. The list seems to never end. Then I move into the next day and the next and the next. Some mornings I think of, how can I get out of some of those things, how I can slow down, how I can find some peace and quiet time, and how I can spend more time with God. That is usually where He steps into my thoughts. He reminds me of the car rides singing together, the early mornings laying in bed in the dark and quiet moments, when I’m sitting on the couch with the tv on yet my eyes drift to the back porch and catch the caps on our little pond and think “Thank you God” and he is there when I’m at work typing away on my computer chatting away with Him about all the ways He gives me strength to make it thru another work day.
Thinking of all this also brings to mind how when I’m helping, or serving, others He is most definitely there also. This is also where conviction steps in. All that we do each day is generally the things we have to do. Wake up, work, clean our home, pay our bills, cook our meals, take care of our kids, animals, spouses, ect. There are the musts. But what about helping and serving others, these are the moments we often choose not to do, because we simply do not want to. We make excuses instead of, as Pastor Eric said, picking up that yes that should always be left on the table.
I’ll wrap this up here, because I do not want to fill your thoughts with to much other than this. This Saturday is our serve day how are you serving Christ by serving others? How are you spending your time with God, aside from the normal day to day activities?
“Faithfulness in the life of a Jesus follower is living with your “Yes” on the table.” Pastor Eric Nidiffer
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
