1 Corinthians 5: 1-13 NIV
“It is reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: a man is sleeping with his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in Spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgement in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. just as if I were present. So, when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the ower of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to satan, for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch as you really are. For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us keep the festival, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people---not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked person from among you.”
My take-away from this whole teaching to the church of Corinth is that as Christians we should not operate in our daily walk, as the world does. We are facing the same issues of sexual immorality today. In this present world, sexual immorality is common-place and on the same plateau as the vital necessities: such as food, clothing, and shelter. It’s nothing to walk around and see men kissing men and women kissing women in public. It’s true that most of the people we love, we are not having sex with, so we should not sit in a seat of judgement but reach out and make an appeal with loving kindness. The dynamics of Family has changed to include same-sex marriage and children being raised by same-sex parents. This is common in our society today. Parents are being faced with the dilemma everyday of their children changing or wanting to change genders, with or without their consent. This is a very touchy and difficult conversation to have, yet it still must be had, risking alienation on either side. God’s position on these lifestyle choices, must be addressed. Someone’s soul being in jeopardy is far more critical than maintaining a falsity, which leads to a failed outcome of hell and eternal damnation. As Pastor Aaron said, God is not against same sex loving one another but he is very much opposed to them having sex with one another. Pastor Aaron gave us Love Truths as follows:
Love Truth #1---Sex does not equal love because it does not always produce love. God says, “Stop! He hates the hook-up culture of today, ordering individuals the same way as food is ordered on ‘Door Dash.’
Love Truth #2---Your Christian Identity should guide and direct your sexual identity. Which one are you putting first? There are some things we have to say ‘No’ to, in the pursuit of God.
Love Truth #3---Love should always side with Truth. The most loving thing you can do for those walking in sexual immorality is to let them know that God does not approve of or that God is not OK with, that Lifestyle or behavior. Reaffirm your love for them, while sharing God’s Truth.
Pastor Aaron went on to share the truth of God’s word in Matthew 19:1-5-NIV"………The Creator made them male and female……….”. Your Christian identity is more important than your sexual identity. God wants everyone saved. In John 8:1-11--We were reminded also of the woman caught in adultery. She was accused and faced being stoned. Jesus made a statement, “Let anyone of you who is without sin, be the first to throw a stone at her.” Her accusers left. Jesus asked, “Where are they? Has no one condemned you?” No one sir, she said. “Then neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.” No matter what the sexual immorality, He says, “STOP! REPENT and you will be forgiven.
