Weekday Devotionals - Seth
Listening to Pastor Pete's recent sermon on prayer and fasting, I was vividly reminded of a consequential chapter in my journey—a transformative period that nudged me toward vocational ministry.
Although I had practiced forms of fasting in the past, such as the Daniel Fast, it was during a severe health crisis in March 2022 that fasting took on a new and urgent significance. Diagnosed with a tumor on my adrenal gland, which caused excessive adrenaline release mimicking constant panic attacks, I was pushed to the brink both physically and emotionally. In this desperate search for healing, I turned again to fasting.
In April 2022, I made the difficult decision to leave the high-stress mortgage business, a choice driven primarily by my health concerns. I then took a nearly year-long sabbatical focusing on recovery, fasting, and reevaluation. By summer, as my health began to improve, I shifted my focus from survival to deeper contemplation of God's plan for my life.
This period of physical healing coincided with a profound spiritual cleansing. Fasting cleared the mental clutter and amplified God's voice, allowing me to hear His call into ministry with unmistakable clarity. This wasn't just a career change; it was a life transformation—a shift from pursuing personal success to embracing a divinely ordained mission.
Today, as I serve within our church, fasting remains a vital practice, not just for personal maintenance but as a foundational spiritual discipline for our community. At Thrive Church, we incorporate fasting into our culture, recognizing it as essential for spiritual growth as outlined in Scripture. It is a discipline that continuously molds my service and spiritual life, reminding me that we are not just bodies needing food but souls needing nourishment from God.
Pastor Pete's sermon ties into this narrative, highlighting fasting as a historical and powerful tool for spiritual renewal. If you're seeking deeper spiritual clarity, consider integrating fasting into your routine. It could transform your health, sure, but more importantly, it could recalibrate your spiritual compass.
As we explore the impactful nature of fasting, let's approach it as more than a ritual. Let it be a pathway to divine revelation and a testament to the power of yielding to God's will. May your fasting journey bring you closer to the heart of God, revealing His plans for you vividly, just as it did for me.
May you find your clarity and peace in the embrace of God's unfailing love, just as I continue to find mine.

P.S. - Over the past 3 years, I believe that the practice of fasting, under God's gracious hand, led to the tumor becoming undetectable on scans, alongside other health improvements like lowered blood pressure and reduced biological age indicators.
