Weekday Devotionals - Steve

Psalm 46:8-10: “Attention all!  See the marvels of God!  He plants flowers and trees all over the earth, bans war from pole to pole, breaks all weapons across his knee.  Step out of the traffic!  Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” (The Message)

THOUGHTS –
Pastor Pete talked about how our world view comes from our experiences and/or education.  He also pointed out that our spiritual journey is about shedding our world view and replacing it with a Biblical world view.

My thoughts - I cannot change if I do not desire to change.  I cannot change if I do not seek God’s direction.  I cannot change if I do not listen.  I cannot change if I do not apply what he is saying to me.  The opening verse in its simpler form is, “Be still and know that I am God!”  Take time to have a conversation with God.  That conversation can occur in a quiet place, during prayer, while reading the Bible, having a conversation with a trusted fellow believer, and more.

Proverbs 18:13 says, “To answer before listening, this is folly and shame!”  I do this with people, and I do this with God.  I seek a word from God and expect an immediate answer, while already trying to solve the issue in my own way.  I am working at being a better listener.  Pastor Pete gave a talking point; “Seek first to understand, and then, to be understood.”  He was talking about our conversations with each other, but in my head, I also heard that this applies to our conversations with God.  Once again, I hear “Be still and know that I am God.”  At this moment I heard, “Look up Bible verses that begin with – In All Things…”  So, I typed in my search and this is some of what came up.
-In all things give thanks.
-In all things God works for the good of those who love him.
-In all things acknowledge him.
-In all things be content.
This is definitely a Biblical world view attitude.

CONCLUSSION -
There was a lot to think about in the Pastor’s message.  This writing is only a small portion of what was spoken.  For me, the key was about having a conversation with God and to listen more than talk.  How can I have a conversation with others, when I do not listen during my conversations with God?

Let this be the beginning of a new conversation with God.  Maybe start by saying, “God, there is a lot that I do not understand about you and why things happen the way they do.  I know that you love me and want the best for me and all of creation.  Help me to spend more time getting to know you, and to listen more than I speak.  Let my world view change from being based on what I have experienced without you, to a Biblical world view based upon me experiencing You.”

Hebrews 11:1&2 – “The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.  It is our handle on what we cannot see.  The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.” (The Message)

As you reflect on your conversations with God and the desire for a Biblical worldview, consider this question:

How can I intentionally create space in my life to listen for God's voice and allow His truths to reshape my understanding of the world around me?

God Bless You!
