Weekday Devotionals

Devotional written by Shaylan Keirstead

Sunday Pastor Pete ended the Rooted  series we have been studying for the last 5 weeks. I don’t know about you, but this series has really challenged me in my faith.  This Rooted call has challenged me to keep pursuing, to keep pressing in,  to keep producing His fruit, to keep listening , and to keep surrendering it ALL to Him.

Some  things that have really stood out to me over these last weeks are…

Week 1-
-My spiritual growth (my future) and what I choose to do as my response to Rooted are intertwined.
-It’s up to me to PURSUE. It is an action on my part.
1 Tim 6:11…”PURSUE righteousness & a godly life…”

Week 2-
-I must understand the process of growing. It takes time.
-If it’s not going to challenge me, it’s not a next step.
Col. 2:7..”Let your roots grow down into Him…THEN your faith will grow…”
-Roots take time to become established.

Week 3-
-We all produce fruit, we can’t help it. Some of us  produce good fruit, some of us not so much…
-We multiply who we are. Do we want children and loved ones who live with an open hand to God? Then I must be intentional to be that way.
-My response to God through Rooted will have an impact far beyond my lifetime.
-I am thankful for a church body that is not focused on serving itself!!!

Judges 2:7,8,10“And the Israelites served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the leaders who outlived him—those who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110….
After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.”

Week 4-
-Do I have an attitude of surrender in everything? Every part of my life or just a small part?
-Is my busyness really what God wants or am I hoarding all my time on myself?
-My decision with my time and money can keep me unfruitful.
-Visual example-God places a small  orange seed in my hand. Am I willing to give it back to Him and trust Him with it?  If I do, He  then takes that small seed and produces a beautiful orange tree! I can trust Him with my seed/everything!

Jer. 17:8 “They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat  or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,  and they never stop producing fruit.”

Week 5 –
-Generosity is not about what God wants FROM me, but what He wants FOR me!
-God gives me a moment to choose- will I step up and PURSUE Him by doing what He asks of me? Or will I miss my moment because I’m scared.
-Who might I become if I’m willing to surrender it ALL to Him?
-There is a difference between hearing and listening to God. Listening calls me to action.
-Real worship costs me something.
Rev. 2:7” Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.”

Application-
For me it often seems that “surrendering it ALL ” , is the hardest. I typically don’t  have a problem giving God my time or money anymore.
But I have asked myself … “does He really mean ALL??? Even my marriage? Even my job?, Even my kids? Surely God will never want me to give up my ______”(fill in your blank)

Take some time and ask God what else He is asking you to surrender fully to Him.

Trust me, I know it’s hard to actually do.
But I have found that as I do the things that help me pursue, press in,  and listen (such as pray, read the Bible, small groups, etc),  the full surrender comes a bit easier. I know I can trust Him because I have seen His faithfulness over and over.
Without Gods faithfulness in my life, and yours, none of us would be here reading this today.

He has called us all to be here, to this church, to this city, to the people, for such a time as this. And He alone will help us all become Rooted in HIM!

I am excited and so thankful to be on this journey with people of such integrity and hearts to follow God WITH EVERYTHING!
