Eternity On Our Minds

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10

Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Hebrews 12:1,2

Stop for a moment

-Be Still-
Still your mind, the swirling thoughts of things to do, problems that overwhelm, solutions needed, "All the things." Put them to the side and consider one particular detail: eternity

-Eternity-
It's had no beginning, and it has no end. And this, right here, this life, this stay on Earth is temporary. With that reframing, does it change the weight of the things that often consume you and the priorities and the importance of some things? I believe it does. In my solitude time with God, I have felt the following convictions: stay close to Him, say yes to Him, and take others with me. Not only does this connect to the message of Eternity, but it beautifully connects with Pastor Aaron's message on Sunday. If eternity is on your mind, then this time on Earth is a temporary journey through which you connect with God, walk out your faith, know Him, love Him, and help others grow in that same knowledge.

With that perspective, you can more clearly see things that weigh you down. What are the things that push you in the opposite direction of that conviction? What are the hindrances "preventing you from running well"? Do you take the time to stop and ask yourself these questions? Do you ask God to search your heart and reveal the hindrances?

This is not fun to do.

This is definitely not on the promotional flyer of Christianity, and it's not on the highlights trailer either. But it is the most necessary deep point of your walk. It's what separates the babies from those who are weaned from the introductory milk. Are you willing to be pruned? Can you live with eternity in your heart and let go of the temporary?

It's hard, really hard, but God promises—PROMISES—to be with us.

His power is made strong in your weakness. Do you want to be used by God to walk with others to build eternity? Then He calls out to you to expose your weaknesses. Because He shows His spectacular greatness through the biggest messes, the most irreparable train wrecks of a person—He puts back together—and shows people around that He can do that for them too.

---------------------------------------Take home point----------------------------------------

Ask the hard questions:
What are your hindrances? Where are you making this temporary situation (your current life) more important than eternity? Are you reading your Bible, fueling for the journey? Are you so concerned with your list or your worries, that your neighbors, store cashiers, friends, and family are falling all around you? Are you spending time with God in solitude so He can light each step of your path? Are you transparent so that a selected safe person can really see you, your weaknesses, and partner with you in this walk?

As you answer these questions, make adjustments, make changes, because

HE the I AM

is all that matters, and no matter how it's dressed up with jobs, personalities, activities, etc, letting others know THAT is our only mission.
