The Mind of Christ
May 5th, 2026

Do you have a favorite person in the Bible? I love the strength of Esther, and the never ceasing faith of Job, but I have to admit I feel totally related to Peter. He had a great friendship with Jesus but then always seemed to mess up- well, I can relate to that.
When reading Matthew 16:13-23 we find Jesus explaining to his disciples what is going to happen to him. Peter says in verse 22- “Never Lord! This shall never happen to you! We then see in verse 23 – Jesus turns to Peter and says, “Get behind me Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s!

Yes Brother Peter- I understand because when the world doesn’t seem to make sense, I feel like I try to make it right in my own head and not what God is trying to show me. That Human Point of View can be harmful and as Pastor Pete told us Sunday- Any point of view other than that of the Lord’s is a dangerous trap. A trap that is far to easy to fall into. Satan does not want us to be saved; He wants us to stay spiritually immature so that we are unable to embrace our true identity in God.

So how do we address those ungodly thoughts in our heads? Joshua 1:8 says- “The book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do”. We need to be reinforced in God’s truth! This is easier when we are around people that keep us accountable and can help us break out of our bad habits. Being around Christlike people, and a diverse group of believers will make life easier for us to do the right thing and to be a good person. This lets us rewire and train our brains to be more like Christ and with time and practice our lives will not be controlled by the world, but by a sovereign God. We must trust in HIS ways.

1 Peter 5:6 -11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And, after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

So, while Peter struggled and I still struggle to do what is good and right in the eyes of God, it is always my prayer that each day I make God smile.

Peace – Prayers—Love
