Never Stop Taking the Next Step


"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Ephesians 3:20-21

I think one of the biggest lies we can believe as Christians is that we'll eventually "arrive."
That one day we'll know enough Scripture, pray enough prayers, serve enough people, or spend enough years following Jesus that we'll finally be... done growing.

But that's never been God's plan.

Think about any healthy relationship in your life. Whether it's a spouse, a close friend, or even a family member, the relationship either grows deeper over time or it slowly drifts apart. It doesn't stay frozen in place. The same is true with our relationship with Jesus.

There is always another step.

Sometimes it's a big step. Maybe it's getting baptized, joining a small group, or finally saying yes to serving. Other times the next step is almost invisible. Choosing to pray before grabbing your phone in the morning. Opening your Bible even when you don't feel like it. Forgiving someone. Loving someone who is difficult to love.

The next step isn't always dramatic, but it's always important.

I love something Pastor Clayton said this Sunday:
"Our goal can't be, 'I'm a good person.' Our goal has to be Jesus. He's the mark."

That changes everything.

Our faith isn't about collecting information or checking spiritual boxes. It's about becoming more like Christ. Every step, no matter how small, shapes us into the people He created us to be.

The best part? God isn't asking you to figure out your next ten steps. He's just asking for the next one.

So if you've been feeling stuck spiritually, don't worry about climbing the whole mountain today. Just take one faithful step toward Jesus. He has a way of meeting us there.
