There are days I feel like the biggest mess up on the planet and then there are the delightful days when the world’s wonders all fall into place and everything is smooth sailing. But those easy days are not always just easy- we must put in the work to make them that way. If we do not have a rhythm to our days and put the work in as we go, our lives can be total chaos. The maintenance we have to do each day for our lives to work is that rhythm. And that rhythm must include God.
When our days feel hard, when we know we must change something, because our way of doing things just isn’t working, maybe what we should be doing is letting God prepare us to take our next steps to follow him better. When our lives are running smoothly, we sometimes get lax in talking to God, but when we have seasons of uncertainty, He is and should be the first person we run back to. Often, we can be heard crying out WHY? Lord Jesus- What are you asking of me?
When saying this out loud do we look inward- Do we recognize our own faults? Do we see that we’ve been guilty by being distant from Him, and that we have put ourselves where we are, but instead we cry - Why? God may have been giving us gentle nudges all along that were totally ignored. God may have been trying to get our attention in many ways by opening doors of opportunity and placing help right in front of us that makes no sense at all. But we must trust Him and allow ourselves to start looking outside of the box or even leaving our comfort zone is sometimes needed. We just have to trust!
Our next steps should be to surrender with humility and to learn to have patient endurance, perseverance, and grit. Philippians 2:7 says- “He gave up his divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. He appeared in human form”. Our spiritual journey at its core is about transformation of character. We need to humble ourselves, give up control of each situation, our demands and wants we expect of others and ourselves, and run to Him. God is the only one that has control and God is the only one that will give us the peace we so long for.
“Life” often gets in the way of the life we had envisioned for ourselves, but with God in control the story always turns out beautiful. So, the answer to the questions above of WHY? God only asks “My Child - Will you follow me?.... Wherever I go?”....
My answer is a resounding – YES! Is yours?
Ephesians 4:11-13 says- “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
Blessings on your week!
