Sabbath and Retreat
There is no doubt that life is hard. That we could and should have more periods of rest in our lives. Getting up each day for work, school, daily chores, and even fun can be done to excess so that each night we are bone tired. I tire of hearing “well at your age” but it is true, I don’t have the stamina I used to. I must watch were I use my energy to have the most of each day.
In Galatians 11:28-30 Jesus says we are to come to him who are weary and burdened and he will give us rest. That he will make our yoke (not an egg) easy and our burden light. My, doesn’t that sound like just the best ever? Jesus says these words of assurance to us but only if we put in the work to. Practicing the Sabbath and giving ourselves time to rest and lean into his word is learning what it means to be made in the image of God. Jesus should be the image we bear likeness to when we go out into the world each day.
Practicing Sabbath means constantly remembering the story we are all a part of. At some point we just have to let go of the worldly things that have their grip on us and give them to God. A time in solitude can help you with the process.
Practicing the Sabbath mean being intentional with the time God gives us. Sometimes that means knowing when to say enough, and let it be -Stop the running and embrace the peace only God can give us.
As image bearers, how are you carrying out the part Jesus gave you?
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
